Children learn about conservation at Earth Hour
Several malls and city hotels joined their counterparts all over the world to celebrate Earth Hour and create more awareness on conservation and environmental issues.
Lights were switched off for an hour from 8.30pm in participating premises last Saturday. Earth Hour is celebrated on the last Saturday of the month of March every year.
At the Gurney Plaza, lights on the façade and non-essential lightings were switched off. The mall management did not merely switch off, it went further by staging eco-friendly activities.
At the atrium area, parents brought their kids to learn about conservation and green activities such as how to make a little greenery in their home or backyard and how easy it is to build their own small indoor herb garden by “Balcony Bloomer”.
The children also took part in Magical Forest that got them to be creative and to appreciate to protect the environment.
The Earth Day event was graced by former Miss Malaysia Deborah Henry, who is the Brand Ambassador for Tea Bird Tea range.
RM1 from the proceeds of the sale of every tea bag went Fugee School, a school where refugee children are given basic education in Kuala Lumpur founded by Deborah Henry.
The wide range of Tea Bird Tea is available at all Cold Storage outlets.
Elsewhere, guests at Cititel Penang joined hands to light candles to mark Earth Hour at the hotel’s lobby area.
On hand to greet them was the hotel’s general manager Tony Goh, who also presented guests with mini-potted herb plants sponsored by the Tropical Spice Garden to create awareness during the gathering.
“I am proud to announce that The Wembley Penang and Cititel Penang were proud recipients of the Penang Green Office certification as well as the AquaSafe certification from Penang Water Department last year,” said Goh.
Elsewhere, Earth Hour was observed at the Bayview Georgetown Hotel and the Straits Quay Retail Mall in Tanjong Tokong.
