Cozy night with Cool Streams

Strong husky vocals and music from Wa keyboard playing welcomes you at the boardwalk at Resort World Langkawi at night.

An all-Malaysian three-piece band, the ‘Cool Streams’, plays nightly at the resort’s open-air restaurant Zest. Behind the keyboard is band leader Boy. The vocalists are Finny and Ayu.

All three can hold themselves as the lead vocalist. They take turns to lead while belting out popular songs and contemporary numbers.

“Our concept is versatility. We can deliver songs in multiple languages. Mandarin, Korean, Japanese. We do Italian too. We sing commercial pop mostly,” says Finny, the band’s spokesperson.

She says they had performed around the country but recently set up base in Langkawi in the past two years.

Although new at the resort, Boy says Cool Streams has a long history going back some 12 years performing on the island itself.

“The band started out at Mutiara Burau Bay (undergoing redevelopment), also in Langkawi,” he said.

Cool Streams is contracted by independent multimedia production company, Snap Productions Sdn Bhd, which is based in Kuala Lumpur.

Snap Productions owner Datuk Alexander I. says his company works with versatile performers, who can engage and build rapport with their audience, to keep guests entertained and happy.

If the performers prove to be good, my company will consider recording albums with them. We are willing to give young performers a chance.

“They must be able to work closely with the hotel and the F&B staff wherever they are playing,” he says.

Snap Productions has added more vibrancy to the night scene in Langkawi by bringing in more live bands to perform.
