Dragon Path at Entopia
GEORGE TOWN – The “Dragon Path” is a new addition that awaits visitors to the state-of-the-art Entopia Discover Centre in Teluk Bahang.
The other new attractions include horseshoe crab, dragonflies and small reptiles.
Among them are the Commom Sun Skink (Eutropia multifasciata), Bearded Dragon (pogona vitticeps), Great Anglehead Lizard ( Gonocephalus grandis), Bell’s Anglehead Lizard, (gonoceophalus bellii), Cat Gecko ( aeluroscalabotes felinus), Tokay Gecko (gekko gecko), Green-eyed Gecko (gekko smithii, Leopard Gecko (eublepharis macularius, Oriental Garden Lizard (calotes versicolor), Peninsular-horned Tree Lizard (acan thosaura armata) and Vieled Chameleon (chamaelea calptratus).
Entopia chief executive officer Joseph Goh said that most of the exhibits in the grassland territory can be considered as living fossils.
“The section also features a dragonfly sanctuary where visitors can inspect around some 300 free flying dragonflies and damselflies of more than 10 species.
“The new trail, aptly named the Dragon Path, will enhance the visitor’s experience as they will be able to explore around freely at the open-concept garden surrounded by the live exhibits at close range,” added Goh.
The Grassland section at Entopia was closed for about a month for upgrading works.
The 100,000 square feet cocoon-like state-of-the-art structure has an open-air area and indoor section with interactive stations for children and adults to enjoy.
At any one time, there are 15,000 free-flying butterflies in the nature habitat. Some might even fly in to sit on your shoulder or hands.
The original Butterfly Farm was founded by his dad, David Goh, in 1986 and was the world’s first tropical butterfly and insect sanctuary.
What started off as an hobby during his David’s childhood days had grown into an internationally recognised research and breeding centre for invertebrates and has attracted the attention of the world’s scientists and scholars in the field of entomology.
Entopia is open from 9am to 7pm daily with the last entry at 5.30pm.
