It’s almost a month since the Hari Raya Puasa celebrations but the festive mood is still very much in the air. Many companies continue to host open houses to celebrate the festival.
For instance, the Eastern & Oriental Bhd (E&O) had its Raya Open House at the Straits Green park in Tanjong Tokong on 30 June.
About 1,000 people from the nearby communities gathered to enjoy an afternoon of entertainment and good food and to foster goodwill.
E&O government liaison and planning senior general manager Datuk Zawawi Yusop said the effort was a cornerstone of the company’s effort to promote harmony and togetherness in a multi-cultural society.
“It’s truly moving to see people from all walks of life gather under one roof to celebrate one festival,” he said.
“This is the time for us to share our abundance and spread blessing to those around us while we extend our appreciation to the local community for supporting our social efforts like the Think Green long term community education programme,” he added.
Penang Deputy Chief Minister 1 Datuk Ahmad Zakiyuddin Abdul Rahman, who was also present, observed that it was a “unique example of how to bring people of all races together”.
“The state government aspires to do the same,” he added.
To entertain the crowd, children from Tadis Ar-Rasyidin and SK Tanjung Tokong showed off their vibrant traditional dance performances.
