G Hotel staff dirtied their hands for good cause

A 18-member team from G Hotel did not mind slogging through mud at the mangrove swamp at Sungei Acheh in Nibong Tebal.

The team members comprising heads of departments (HOD) and volunteers replanted 100 saplings while taking part in the rehabilitation of the mangrove forest there with Penang Inshore Fisherman Welfare Association (PIFWA) members.

The hotel also handed over RM1,100 to the association towards the rehabilitation of mangroves at the mangrove forest.

This was the hotel’s corporate social responsibility project to help in the protection of the environment, restoration of rivers and sustainable use of peatlands, forests and wetlands to conserve biodiversity and mitigate climate change.

Sungai Acheh is a mangrove forest that protects the coastal areas from natural hazards such as storms, tidal waves and tsunami to act as breeding grounds for marine life that are the source of income of the fishermen communities and also the food supply for the people.

PIFWA president Ilias Shafie conveyed his gratitude to the G Hotel management for their care and concern while G Hotel Gurney and G Hotel Kelawai general manager Michael Hanratty said giving back to the community is what G Hotel has been practising all these times.

G Hotel has organised numerous charitable events since its opening in 2007 such as donation for Save Our Strays Penang (SOS), bathing the dogs at SPCA, buying Christmas presents for orphans, donations to Old Folks’ home, and cleaning of Gurney Drive public area.

The hotel helped to raise funds for the underprivileged, donating furniture to schools, organising educational classes to instil five-star food and beverage and hospitality knowledge in schools near the hotel.
