As most of you should know by now, Penang is the definition of food paradise. At any corner, any time of the day, good food is just one turn away.
Aside from food, of course, Penang is well known for its heritage sites and the many cafés that have blossomed after it got the UNESCO World Heritage site status.
The trending café at the moment is the ice-themed café, which is the only cafe in Malaysia that maintains a temperature of 8°C throughout the day, giving you the ultimate North Pole experience in this scorching hot weather. If you’ve always wanted to experience sweater weather in a cold country but afraid that it might burn a hole in your pocket, then look no further because the Ice Café experience is all you need!
Ice Café is located at 193, Lebuh Victoria. It is on the second floor of the building, right above Phantamania Penang on the ground floor. As you walk up the stairs to the cafe, there are stickers that indicate the drop of temperature, followed by a very intriguing and mysterious walkway that leads you inside.
As the door swings open, it takes you into a whole new world (pretty much like Narnia if you’ve ever watched the movie), giving you a very breezy welcome to the café. Remember to bring a jacket to keep you warm inside!
If the temperature inside the cafe isn’t tempting enough for you, the interior décor is carved entirely out of ice in a frozen haven. From the ice bed, frozen fireplace and the frosty glass, to snowman, igloo and an icy ceiling filled with Christmas deco. It is a perfect place to take loads of pictures to fill Facebook and Instagram with.
Of course, the Ice Café offers more than just cool breeze and beautiful décor. To put your chills to the test, they serve scrumptious shaved ice desserts, fresh fruit juices and even coffee! Among the many to choose from, their bestsellers are the Snowflake on Ice Bowl topped with super delicious ice cream, freshly sliced fruits and chocolate wafers.
The Snowflake on Ice Bowl comes in two different sizes to choose from so you don’t have to worry about sharing the goodness with your friends. After all, the more the merrier! Another thing that makes their desserts stand out from the rest is the ice cream flavors that you can match your ice dessert with, such as Durian, Cranberries and Jackfruit (Cempedak).
The other thing that made this café stand out even more than it already does, is the excellent customer service that the team has to offer to further enhance your experience there. From the minute you enter the café, you are greeted with the friendliest ‘Welcome to Ice Café’, followed by a warm and genuine smile while you order your desserts and until you’ve finally settled down at the table.
The quality of service that the crew can provide is equally as important to the food and atmosphere that a place has to offer, and the Ice Café definitely deserves a 10/10 rating for a first-class customer experience.
Very much like Char Koay Teow, Cendol and Laksa, Ice Cafe should be added to the ‘Penang Must-Have’ bucket list in your travel plan!
