Learning field trip to Entopia
Some 115 students from SK Tanjong Tokong, SJK (C) Hun Bin and SJK (T) Azad had a whale of a time to explore Entopia Teluk Bahang at their Natureland living outdoor gardens and The Cocoon indoor discovery centre recently.
The exploration trip for the students aged between 10 to 12 years was organised by Eastern & Oriental Berhad (E&O).
Among the critters were a myriad of butterflies and dragonflies, flying freely in the remarkable outdoor classroom which was especially enthralling for the children.
During the activities, the children got up close and personal with some of the bug world’s famous icons such as the millipede, bearded dragon, scorpion, sugar glider and stick insect.
Instead of fearing these creatures, the children gained in-depth understanding about them, as well as insects, invertebrates and small reptiles through exhibition and activities.
Some of the students took part in indoor activities testing their newfound knowledge and walked away with mysterious prizes.
E&O group strategy and communications senior manager Ann Tan said the exploration brought the students a step closer to nature as they learnt of its beauty.
“This is in line with the objective of our Think Green community education programme of nurturing and inculcating eco-consciousness.
“The children’s response to such learning experiences are priceless. We hope to roll out more of such outings under the Think Green umbrella,” she said.
E&O started the Think Green programme four years ago and continues to work closely with the Consumers Association of Penang (CAP) and schools in the vicinity of Seri Tanjung Pinang, namely SK Tanjong Tokong, SJK(C) Hun Bin, SJK (T) Azad, Tadis Ar-Rasyidin, and later with SMK Tanjung Bungah and SK Pendidikan Khas Persekutuan Pulau Pinang.
Over the years, participating students have learnt about compost making, garden design and care, building raised beds, growing food, herb appreciation, urban gardening, natural farming, and making Do-It-Yourself (DIY) planters.
In Penang, E&O’s award-winning Seri Tanjung Pinang (STP) is the island’s first master planned seafront development that is now a highly sought-after and thriving community for locals as well as expatriates from over 20 nationalities. Reclamation of the second phase of STP started in 2016 and is on-going.
In Kuala Lumpur, E&O’s landmark properties include The Mews, St Mary Residences, Dua Residency, Idamansara and Seventy Damansara, all located in the most prime and prestigious neighbourhoods of the capital city.
In Johor’s southern development corridor of Iskandar Malaysia, E&O has embarked on Avira, a 207-acre development within Bandar Medini Iskandar that has easy accessibility to the Second Link connection to Singapore.
In its expansion overseas, E&O’s international foray into real estate investment and development is focused within prime locations in London, including Princes House along Kingsway, ESCA House in Bayswater, and a commercial property in Hammersmith.
