Can you name the local birds species? Apart from maybe pigeons, turtledove and egret, there are hundreds of local birds and migrating birds in Malaysia. One of the best places to learn about birds is at the Melaka Bird Park, adjacent to the Botanical Garden in Ayer Keroh.
It is advisable to visit the park in the morning when the birds are more active. The park is the largest aviary in Melaka that houses a large collection of Malaysian birds.
There are more than 100 species of both local and imported birds in the park that aims to protect and educate the public on birds’ species. These birds come from South Africa, other parts of Asia, Australia and Africa.
Apart from knowing birds’ species, the park also hosts educational and recreational programmes for visitors, especially school children.
Visitors to the park can also purchase combo seeds at the counter for RM10 to feed the birds. Just stretch out your arm with a handful of seeds and the birds will come and perch on your arms, shoulders and heads.
These are perfect picture opportunities not to be missed especially for budding photographers.
You can take pictures of colourful birds with the the lush greenery of the Ayer Keroh forest as the background.
There is also a special skywalk about 12 meters above ground in the aviary for visitors to experience an aerial view, or bird’s view.
The Melaka Bird Park is the best place to enjoy quality time with your family. It is also the best place to introduce children to the many species of birds, their diet and habitats.
It is also to instil love towards animals and environment. And as the protector of this planet earth, we must protect its inhabitants, including its flora and fauna too.
The Melaka Bird Park is opened daily from 9am to 6pm. The tickets prices are Rm17.80 for adults holding MyKad and RM11.85 for children. For senior citizens the ticket price is RM11.85.
