Penang Governor attends Raya celebration hosted by The Light Hotel
It was a memorable day out for children from several charitable homes here when they were able to meet the Governor of Penang, Tun Utama Dr Abdul Rahman Abbas, in conjunction with the governor’s 79th birthday celebrations hosted by The Light Hotel in Seberang Jaya.
The hotel had laid out the red carpet welcome for the governor who was accompanied by his wife Puan Datuk Seri Hajah Majimor Shariff. Both were greeted by children dressed in traditional costumes.
The children were from Kasih Abadi Seberang Prai, Shan Children’s Home Perai, Butterworth, and Eden Handicap Centre, Penang.
The occasion also saw the launching of the first of its kind 14-seater club car limousine for hotel guests’ comfort.
The limousine is named “Francis Light” in commemoration of Captain Sir Francis Light, the founder of Penang which marks the start of an important milestone that transformed the tiny island into a place with bustling economic activity and tourism.
The limousine which is operated by batteries is a significant step in the hotel’s efforts to support the state government’s “Green” initiatives.
The hotel has also taken many positive steps to contribute to a low-carbon society by working with the Seberang Perai City Council on gotong-royong projects.
After the ribbon-cutting ceremony, the governor joined children and other dignitaries to a luncheon and was presented with “pulut kuning” that symbolises gratitude, appreciation and thankfulness in keeping with Malay customs and traditions.
The children were also presented with duit raya courtesy of The Light Hotel.
Also present was Azhar Mohammad, chairman of The Light Hotel Penang, State Executive Councillor Dr Afif Bahardinand and hotel general manager Raj Kumar along with the top management of The Light Hotel (M) Sdn Bhd .
