Rainbow Skywalk on air
By Tharanie Rajendran
Rainbow Skywalk is the latest tourist attraction on the roof of the 68-story high KOMTAR tower in Penang for those who have no fear of height.
At 249 metres above sea level, this open-air horse-shoe glass platform that juts out of the rooftop as an overhang affords a stunning seamless view of George Town.
Looking down at your feet is a vista of terracotta-tile rooftops of the heritage city below and the view beyond is the two Penang bridges and the narrow straits where century-old ferries ply between the island and mainland.
Visitors are required to wear shoe covers while on the Sky Walk platform and at any one time, only a limited number of visitors are allowed to walk through.
Those who hope to overcome acrophobia (fear of height) may opt for the glass walkway that lets you watch the world go by below at the Observatory Deck on Level 65.
The Rainbow Skywalk and the Observatory Deck is part of The Top amusement theme park that is a plan to rejuvenate KOMTAR into a premier happening place for the family by One World Group (OWG). It is the first and largest indoor theme attraction.
At the top levels are several fine-dining restaurants and F&B outlets, such as TOP View Restaurant and Lounge and Grand Imperial Restaurant while others like Umi Restaurant and Coco Cabana Bar and Bistro are at the lower floors.
OWG has also developed The Top@Komtar indoor theme attractions occupying five floors at the podium of KOMTAR. There are over 10 different theme park attractions such as the Jurrassic Research Centre, Asia’s first 7D Discovery Motion Theater, Ocean Explorer, Musical Carousel, Tongkat Ali King and Japan Food Street.
Penang Science Centre, Tech Dome Penang, and the Penang State Gallery are also popular attractions for the family.
