RISE against Hunger
Sunway Group and its staff has embarked on a Rise Against Hunger campaign to feed the poor by packing 240,000 dehydrated packaged meals in a event held in conjunction with the upcoming 60th Merdeka Day celebrations.
Its employees did their bid at four locations around the country as an act of giving back to the nation. A total of 60,000 meals were packed at Sunway Lost World Hotel in Ipoh, Sunway Hotel Seberang Jaya in Penang, Sunway City in Kuala Lumpur and at Sunway Iskandar, Johor.
This is the fourth consecutive year that Sunway Group is working to end hunger for the most impoverished in Malaysia. This initiative – in support of the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goal 2: Zero Hunger to end all forms of malnutrition by 2030 – is Malaysia’s largest corporate meal-packing effort this year to feed the hungry around Malaysia.
“Sunway is committed to the UN Sustainable Development Goals, one of which is Goal 2 – Zero Hunger. In conjunction with Malaysia’s 60th independence year, Sunway continues to support our nation’s progress through #SUNWAYFORGOOD events such as the Rise Against Hunger Meal Packing Programme.
“This year, we want to deliver greater impact on our communities by scaling up the programme to involve Sunway volunteers from Ipoh, Klang Valley and Johor Bahru as well.
“I am happy to have our Sunway Penang volunteers involved in this meaningful event and playing their part in making hunger a thing of the past,” said Ahila Ganesan, General Manager of Sunway Property Penang.
A total of 150 staff in Penang gathered at Sunway Hotel Seberang Jaya to take on the meal packing project. The dehydrated meals comprised of rice, soy, vegetables, flavouring and 21 essential vitamins and minerals which are highly nutritious.
They were led by Rise Against Hunger President Tiki Keh; Sunway Hotel Seberang Jaya and Sunway Hotel Georgetown General Manager Prakash Kumaran, its Director of Business Development P Nagaswaran and Sunway Carnival Mall Marketing Manager Sharley Ooi.
Later, the pre-packed meals were presented to the Malaysian Red Crescent Society who will distribute the meal packages to 1,000 Orang Asli families and the poor.
