All smiles at Children’s Home
Children at the Penang Ru Yi Home in Mount Erskine has a surprise visit from a team of volunteers from Eastern & Oriental Berhad (E&O) recently.
The home caring for 18 children were all smiles when the E&O staff members conducted an “overhaul” of the kids’ corner at the premises.
The group contributed some home study equipment and furniture including book shelves with glass doors, alphabet foam mat, four sets of study tables and chairs to enhance the learning environment.
The children aged from four to 16 received educational materials, stationaries, board games and story books worth some RM1,500.
They were especially excited when a brand-new laptop complete with Microsoft Office software was set up at the kids’ corner.
E&O group strategy and communications senior manager Ann Tan said the contribution was part of the group’s on-going commitment to giving back to the local community, particularly the less fortunate younger generation.
“We hope to improve the educational aspects of the home by providing more facilities to enhance the learning environment especially since these children will be the leaders of tomorrow,” she added.
Meanwhile, Penang Ru Yi Home administrator Ong Lay Keow commended the E&O group for their act of kindness.
“We cannot thank E&O enough for their contribution that will allow the children to have more space to learn and play together.
“With the new laptop, the children no longer need to queue too long for their turn just for a mere 20-minute usage of computer each time,” added Ong.
The children were later treated to a vegetarian buffet.
