Sushi and cocktail-making challenges put bloggers to the test

Instead of eating and writing reviews about the food they are served, a group of bloggers recently put their culinary skills to the test at the G Hotel Kelawei in Penang.

With their roles reversed, the five bloggers had to make sushi and cocktails, and serve them up under the watchful eyes of professionals.

The five bloggers were first given tips and guidance by hotel chef P. Karthi on how to make sushi dishes such as Maki, Gunkan and Uramki before they were allowed 45 minutes to prepare the food.

With the verdict delivered, they learned that the sushi dishes they prepared actually tasted delicious and it was beyond what was expected. They were commended on their food presentation too.

Next, the five had to try their hand at making G Hotel’s signature cocktail, the Chilly Lada after Bar captain H. Preetran demonstrated how the spicy drink is made using chillies, lemon, vodka, passion fruit puree and cranberry.

The bloggers completed the challenge with flying colours again. Gibson Chan emerged the winner and received hotel stay vouchers from G Hotel communications director Christina Tan.

“We were surprised with the results, the scores among the bloggers were very close. We hope to hold more of these competitions in the future,” she says.
