Tourist One Stop Centre
This Tourist One Stop Centre is literally an “all-under-one-roof” service provider. Recently opened in Pantai Tengah in Langkawi, the centre allows tourists to meet tourism operators in a relaxed no hard selling atmosphere.
This conducive ambiance helps to make for a holiday well-spent that is relaxing and more memorable.
Owned and operated by licensed travel agent Tropical Charters, tourists can obtain the latest and accurate information and updates on tourist attractions and products.
It is also the place for operators to share ideas, make friends and network with each other, and promote their products to tourists.
Tropical Charters chief executive officer Datuk Alexander I. says having the centre will help local tourism businesses in Langkawi support the Tourism Ministry’s plan to drive the island’s tourism industry forward by promoting their respective products and services in a more professional, efficient and accountable way.
The centre, he says, is different from other places with its “relaxed, no hard-selling” marketing.
“Travel agents and operators sell their products in a nice and conducive environment. We only work with licensed ones, so tourists can feel safe, secure and guaranteed, and have peace of mind.
“Tourists walk in, have some tea or coffee while getting all the information they need on the products and services different operators are offering, and do their bookings here if they like what is offered. Nobody will pester them to buy anything.
“Everything is done in a holiday mood and tourists can have their entire Langkawi holiday arranged and taken care off here.
“The advantage is tourists who are unhappy with what they have paid have a place to seek redress, to complain and ask for refund and their grouses will be investigated.
“We are also negotiating with an insurance provider to provide coverage for some specific tours. We want to do away with the perception that Langkawi tourism operators are unprofessional.
“We are thinking of our end-users, the tourists. They want products and services they are confident of for a hassle-free holiday. We think they will appreciate what we are doing here,” he says.
In keeping with modern technology, the Tourist One Stop Centre is also digitalised. Information on accommodations, tour packages, attractions and other products offered in Langkawi are literally at tourists’ fingertips – displayed on smart tablets for easy browsing.
Langkawi Business Association (Niagakawi) tourism bureau chairman Pishol Ishak, who helps to man the centre, says it is a place for all stakeholders to get together, hold promotions and talks, and showcase their products.
“This is good for the island’s tourism. It is in line with the goal to further enhance Langkawi as a tourist destination, highlighting the many things our island has to offer,” he says.
The centre, which opens daily from 10am to 9pm, is at No. 7, Sunmall Complex on Jalan Teluk Baru. It is about half an hour from Kuah, and about 20 minutes from the Langkawi International Airport by car.
