From wheat beer to sauerkraut, it will be an all-German affair to the smallest detail when Golden Sands Resort celebrates Oktoberfest this year.
The beach fronting the Sigi’s Bar & Grill will be transformed into a Bavarian village, complete with old-style wooden chairs and tables as well as wooden floors for traditional German tap dancing.
The event, slated for Oct 17, will also be the first time the German beer fest is celebrated on the beach in Penang.
The five-piece Franker Rauber band will be flown in from Munich to perform a repertoire of rock, traditional folk and popular Oktoberfest hits.
Apart from the sauerkraut – a popular German pickled cabbage dish – the guests will be treated to German grilled sausages, chicken schnitzel, roasted whole chicken, cheese and herbs spaetzli, beef goulash, beef Vienna and steak.
They can then top off the hearty meal with desserts such as the black forest cake, apple strudel, pretzel and kaiserschmarrn (pancake with Apple sauce).
Well-known German lagers and wheat beers such as Erdinger and Lowenbrau, as well as German wines, will flow freely.
There will be a tap dancing and beer drinking challenge. To go traditional, one could even don a lederhosen or dirndl – the traditional Alpine attire for men and women.
Those who want to join in this annual affair should make their way to the Sigi’s Bar & Grill, where the party starts at 6pm. The Oktoberfest Buffet Dinner is priced at RM99 nett per adult and RM50 nett per child.
