A booklet on the host of activities and pictures on the “Think Green ” activities was launched recently during the Eastern & Oriental Berhad (E&O) Aidilfitri Open House at Seri Tanjung Pinang.

The 72-page colourful booklet is filled with photos of activities through the years and it captures the journey of E&O’s community education programme journey since its inception in 2013.

It is also a tribute to the people, groups and establishments that have supported E&O’s efforts to build a long-term focused and meaningful community engagement programme in Penang.

“Think Green has come a long way since we started in 2013. This journey has only been possible with the contribution of our primary community outreach partner Consumers’ Association of Penang (CAP) as well as our permaculture design partner Cultivate Central who helped us shape and drive the Think Green food garden and programme”, said E&O Property (Penang) Sdn Bhd general manager Zawawi Yusop.

Zawawi said the success of the Think Green programme also rested on the support rendered by the core community of schools, namely SK Tanjung Tokong, SJK (C) Hun Bin, SJK (T) Azad, Tadis Ar-Rasyidin, SMK Tanjung Bungah and SK Pendidikan Khas Persekutuan Pulau Pinang. Activities with these participating schools as well as CAP are featured in the Think Green booklet.

“We hope the ideas and activities shared within the booklet will be beneficial to anyone wanting to create green urban space, grow food in small spaces and cultivate community spirit with children,” he said in his welcome remarks during the open house event.

Some 2,000 guests from the local community attended. They included Seri Tanjung Pinang residents, community leaders, school teachers and even expatriates who started thronging the marquee before noon and exchanged festive greetings amidst a celebratory atmosphere.

An array of traditional favourites and modern dishes from the local community such as satay, kambing golek, cucur udang, ice kacang, fried chicken and briyani rice, were served.

Traditional dance performances were put up by students of SK Tanjung Tokong and Tadis Ar-Rasyiddin.
