Indian travel agents to get to see the best of Penang

Penang will get to showcase its best tourism products when it plays host to 150 tour and travel agents from India from Sept 4 to Sept 8, 2018.

The agents, who are holding their first Educational Destination Workshop-International (EDWIN) at the Setia SPICE Convention Centre, will get to experience first-hand all that Penang has to offer through business-to-business (B2B) sessions, site inspections, workshops and networking events.

Penang welcomes Indian travel agents

The workshop is part of an initiative by Penang Convention and Exhibition Bureau (PCEB) to promote the newly-launched Penang International Travel Exchange (PITE) programme.

The PITE programme is targeted at making Penang the preferred destination for business and leisure travellers to the Asia-Pacific.

Apart from learning all they can about Penang’s tourism attractions, the Indian visitors will also get to feature their leading travel product – the Global Panorama Showcase (GPS), Ashwin Gunasekeran, chief executive officer of PCEB, said at a press conference recently.

Also present at the press conference were Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow and exco member in charge of tourism Yeoh Soo Hin.

In welcoming the move, Chow noted that it would help to promote Penang as a choice destination for business and leisure travellers.

Ashwin explained that a key component of the PITE programme was the B2B session. This is the platform for Malaysian business events and tourism service providers to showcase their products and services to the Indian travel agents.

“PITE 2018 marks a significant milestone for Penang as it is also co-organised by Apollo Conferences, which is Penang’s first home-grown professional conference organiser,” Ashwin said. “Apollo Conferences is the culmination of an effort by PCEB to set up a Penang-based professional conference organiser. This will strengthen Penang’s capabilities in hosting business events.”

For those interested in participating in the B2B sessions, the registration fee is RM2,000. However, members of PCEB’s Industry Partner Programme are entitled to a RM1,500 subsidy. This is to encourage them to market their products and services to one of the fastest growing outbound tourism markets in the world.

With its rich UNESCO heritage, thriving multicultural society, state-of-the-art facilities and unique natural attractions, Penang offers a truly eclectic tropical experience for any visitor.
