“At first, I did not believe it and thought it was some scam or spam. I texted my wife at work and the first thing out of her mind was – “don’t tell anyone, you will look like a fool if it is a scam!”.

“Then I checked my email and looked up Hard Rock Penang Facebook Page,  I started to get excited.

“This is hard to believe but a trip to Bali and Pattaya was the first prize I have ever won. Million thanks to Hard Rock for organizing this charity event.

“It was so meaningful that the funds will be used to upkeep a school for our future generations,” said Yap.

The charity event was in keeping with the motto of Hard Rock Hotel Penang of “Take Time to be Kind”, to raise RM50,000 to benefit Sekolah Kebangsan Pendidikan Khas Persekutuan during the recent Rock-A-Duck charity promotion. The school helps children with hearing impaired.

Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng picked the lucky duck from a pool of 10,000 that has Yap’s name on it. He praised Hard Rock Hotel Penang for its role in helping the needy and underprivileged.

“I am truly pleased to see how Hard Rock Hotel Penang has been consistently involved in corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives. Only last week they donated RM70,000 to Sekolah Kebangsaan Batu Ferringhi that was collected from its Rock to Rock Run.”

Some 20,000 limited edition rubber ducks were produced with 10,000 being sold to donors at RM10 each while the other 10,000 was released into the hotel’s swimming pool for the lucky draw.

“The response we received from hotel guests was overwhelming. It is really delightful to see so much generosity coming from people from all races and ages,” said Hard Rock Hotel Penang general manager John Primmer.

The first runner-up received three-day-two-night stay at the Lagoon Deluxe room at the Hard Rock Hotel Penang while the third prize was a three-day-two-night-stay in a Seaview Deluxe room.
