FiftySix Degrees Blended Scotch Whisky a Winner
FiftySix Degrees (FSD) Blended Scotch Whisky comes with a grand legacy since 1933, based on its collaboration with Ian Macleod Distillers Ltd, an internationally renowned independent Scotch whisky company.
This premium whisky is led by the first female whisky blend creator and entrepreneur in the country Kristine Goh while Ian Macleod is led by its third generation of whisky makers.
It is also ranked in the Top 10 whisky companies in the world. Among its portfolio are the Glengoyne, Isle of Skye and Tamdhu Scotch single malt whisky.
FSD is named after the latitude of the Scottish Highlands, which are well-known for its rugged beauty, clan history and exceptional malt whisky.
“FSD blended Scotch Whisky contains specifically selected Highland single malts which are aged in American bourbon oak casks and finished in sherry casks for the smooth malty flavours and final finishing with a single grain whisky for added sweetness.
“The result is sprightly yet mature in character. FSD blended scotch whisky strikes a lovely balance of top citrus notes with a rich malty heart and bears a fresh and creamy palate with a mouth coating fruitiness developing with time,” explained Kristine in an exclusive interview with where2 Travel and Lifestyle magazine.
She added the uniqueness of FSD blended scotch whisky is that it is a Highland Scotch Whisky but blended with the Asian palate in mind.
“We teamed up with Ian Macleod Distillers Ltd to create an easy-drinking whisky that would boast Western traditional values of a Highland Scotch Whisky in a versatile and relaxed style, reflective of the Asian culture.
“The food culture in Asia is generally rooted in the mixing of multiple ingredients to produce dishes of vastly differing flavours.
“As such, the Asian table is often loaded with an array of food and condiments to be shared among a group of people. FSD blended scotch whisky is made to reflect this almost communal aspect of the food experience in Asia,” added Kristine.
Combining tradition and innovation, FSD aims to challenge the norms of whisky appreciation and push the traditional boundaries of how Scotch whisky can be consumed.
“The best feature of FSD is that it can appeal to both whisky aficionados and novices by providing an alternative to blended whiskies by creating a whisky that possesses single malt properties (rich malty flavours) and yet is light and easy to drink.
“FSD blended scotch whisky is akin comparable to high-end blended whiskies because it is blended to match our usual single malts at more affordable price points,” added Kristine.
Due to the unique aspect, Kristine has been working to create FSD blended scotch whisky, the outcome is a very versatile whisky that can be served neat, on the rocks and in cocktails.
Currently, FSD blended scotch whisky is available at selected retails and grocery outlets, namely Jason’s Food Hall Jaya Grocer, Cold Storage, Village Grocers and Mercato as well as bars and restaurants in Klang Valley, Penang and Johor.
“True to our brand of innovation and adventure, our approach to marketing aims to challenge and enable our followers to do the same.
“Earlier this year, we conducted an “Ambassador Search” (#5for56) in which we selected five individuals from Malaysia willing to participate in separate challenges — from eating whale sperm, running through virgin jungles to flying a simulated plane just to name a few.
“Each victor will stand to win a lifetime travel adventure that includes sailing on a Viking ship and exploring Scotland by sea or travelling across continents on the trans-Siberian railway, trekking through the Silk Road portals of Sayaram and witnessing a rocket launch from Kazakhstan.”
Their next plan to promote their brand is to work together with more individuals that embody the FSD adventurous and innovative spirit and to assist such individuals in enabling their aspirations.
