If you want to wholly experience Langkawi’s natural beauty and don’t mind stepping out of your comfort zone, consider Stand-Up Paddle (SUP) boarding at the Kilim Geoforest Park.

There is no greater feeling than being out on the water, listening to the water lapping as you stand paddling on an inflatable board, just you and the surrounding eden of limestone karst and mangrove forested landscape without the engine noise slicing the tranquillity. The non-motorised, eco-friendly sport allows you to combine sightseeing and recreational activity as well as to engage directly with nature that you would otherwise miss if you were on a boat.

The Stand-Up Paddle Kilim Adventure with Tropical Charters is a 2-hour tour and it is the only travel agent that offers this type of tour to Kilim in the whole of Langkawi. Start your tour at 10am so you can fit this into your morning agenda and have the rest of the day unwinding in some spa relaxation and karaoke fun.

Don’t be afraid of falling off the board because you’ll be provided with a life vest and Tropical Charters’ experienced instructor, Siri Guimaraes, a Brazilian with over 10 years of experience in SUP boarding coaching will guide you throughout your paddling adventure.

Arrange to be picked up at your hotel or choose to find your way to the Kilim Water Jetty to meet Tropical Charters and Mr Siri. From the jetty, with all the SUP equipments tied to the boat, everything will be ready to be transferred to the drop-off point further down the river to start the paddling lessons.

After a careful briefing on water safety and basic paddling skills in the boat by Mr Siri, it’s time to test the waters. Following Mr Siri, you will paddle through a cave and out to the open sea by the signage of the

Kilim Geoforest Park, coming into close encounters with eagles, monkeys, monitor lizards and crabs along the way. If you’re lucky, you might even catch sight of dolphins playing in the ocean. The best thing about SUP is that you get to paddle at your own pace to fully immerse in the extensive ecology of flora and fauna endemic to the mangrove.

Go on your knees and paddle, or on your belly and paddle with your hands, or take a seat on your board anytime in between to quench your thirst and snack on bananas and apples provided by

Tropical Charters. There’s no rush in fully experiencing the 550 million year-old UNESCO gazetted park!

With its cross generational appeal and relatively safe and easy for anyone to learn, SUP is a perfect family holiday activity on the placid waters of Kilim Geoforest Park. No waves required! The

Stand-Up Paddle Kilim Adventure tour is priced at RM336 per person.
