Eastern & Oriental Berhad’s Seri Tanjung Pinang bagged The Edge Property Excellence Award 2016 recently, gaining peer group re cognition for making an impact in its design and concept of its property development.

The 240-acre seafront development in Tanjung Tokong, Penang, was recognised as a catalyst for growth that continues to contribute to the vibrancy of its vicinity, underscoring its position as the island’s most desired address.

According to E&O executive deputy chairman Dato’ Seri Terry Tham Ka Hon, “we are heartened by this win, which coincides with Seri Tanjung Pinang’s 11th year since our debut launch in 2005.

“Our vision was to create a world-class development that celebrates the best facets of island living. This award for the project, which is born through E&O’s collaboration with award-winning local and international partners, validates the realisation of that vision.”

Tham also says E&O owed its success to its customers, who trusted and supported the development firm. E&O had engaged the US-based architectural firm WATG that was responsible for award winning international destinations such as the Four Seasons, Grand Hyatt, and Ritz Carlton resorts to conceptualise the integrated master plan for Seri Tanjung Pinang.

The developer then partnered with Malaysia’s own Aga Khan Award for Architecture winner, GDP Architects, to transform the concept into reality.

In 2003, E&O through its subsidiary Tanjung Pinang Development Sdn Bhd assumed the rights, obligations and liabilities of the former concessionaire for the then idle and partially reclaimed Seri Tanjung Pinang project.

Reviving it, E&O reconfigured the development mix in favour of residential homes instead of the original focus on high density commercial properties.

E&O completed the reclamation of Seri Tanjung Pinang and held its maiden launch of terraced homes in 2005, with the handover to purchasers in 2006. It then continued to evolve over the years to feature seafront villas, semidetached homes, high-end condos, executive apartments, and low- and medium-cost apartments.

E&O’s signature condominium project, Quayside Seafront Resort Condominiums, even has a 4.5-acre residents’ water park among its range of world-standard facilities, a distinction rarely found in other regional developments.

Seri Tanjung Pinang is today a thriving cosmopolitan community of choice, where over 20 nationalities have called home; but is also a favourite recreational spot for the nearby community and visitors.

The 4-acre Straits Green public park provides ample open and green space for the folks of Tanjung Tokong to relax, have picnics and exercise. There are also the free weekly E&O ‘dancercise’ sessions for the health conscious, and a state-of-the-art waterplay area for kids to enjoy.

Within Straits Green is also a community garden serving as the base for E&O’s flagship ‘Think Green’ community education programme, where schoolchildren from schools around Tanjung Tokong can learn about being ecoconscious, healthy living and community spirited. The programme is run in collaboration with the Consumers’ Association of Penang.

The Straits Quay festive retail marina on the eastward side of the masterplanned development has also become one of Penang island’s must-visit destinations, with its picturesque marina, selection of retailers and F & B outlets.
