Unique CNY decorations a sight to behold

Chinese New Year is a time to window shop to appreciate the attractive interior decorations put up by the shopping malls in George Town.

Each of the malls displays its own creative displays that promises to mesmerise. So you have already done your CNY shopping, it’s also a good time to soak in the ambience of this festive season.

At Gurney Plaza, a giant phoenix takes pride of place at its central atrium area.

The 20-foot multi-coloured phoenix that signifies peace and prosperity has 88 fans – a lucky number to denote ‘fatt’ or prosperity – to make up its long flowing tail.

At Queensbay Mall in Bayan Lepas, the interior CNY decorations displays this season’s changeover from winter to spring.

This mall celebrates the Year of the Fire Rooster in its true sense with the Chinese New Year celebration marking the end of Winter and the beginning of Spring.

“This season welcomes new harvest that symbolises new life and breakthroughs of which many of us hope for in the coming year.

“Certainly, Queensbay Mall’s creative festive decorations bring on the wow factor and gets visitors into the shopping mood.

“The Mall’s Central Atrium has been transformed to celebrate the grand tradition of reunion while welcoming prosperity in the presence of family and loved ones from near and far,” said general manager Selina Ng. Present was Gurney Plaza centre manager Peter Chan.

The elaborate decoration boasts a spectacular atmosphere of homecoming and reunion and while the deco of roaming roosters represent a flourishing township complete with a bustling Chinese New Year bazaar offering cookies, delicacies, gift hampers and decorative items.

The sugar-coated haws, dragon’s beard candy and dumpling stalls along the boulevard is the mall’s wishes for its shoppers, a sweet and beautiful life filled with abundance of wealth in the year of 2017.

There is also a lined-up of exciting events and activities such as reward redemptions, festive bazaar, kids’ events and exciting stage performances to foster cultural awareness and harmony in the community.

The Sunway Carnival Mall in Seberang Jaya welcomes the Chinese New Year with the theme of “Brimming with Prosperity” with a host of cultural activities that last till Feb 12.

The God of Prosperity sits majestically at the centre of the mall’s concourse to bring good fortune for shoppers and visitors.

Among the highlights for the year of the Rooster are Chinese orchestra performance, Mask Changing performance, Chinese Calligraphy workshop and God of Prosperity walkabout to greet shoppers.

Other malls which have been spruced up for the Year of the Rooster are the Straits Quay Retail Marina in Tanjong Tokong and also the Gurney Paragon Mall along Gurney Drive.
